Overview

Milan Malpensa Airport (IATA: MXP, ICAO: LIMC) lies on the heathland between Ferno, Somma Lombardo and Cardano al Campo, in the province of Varese, and is the busiest airport in northern Italy: in 2025 it passed 30 million passengers for the first time, closing at 31.2 million, up 9% on the previous year. It is the north's main intercontinental airport, a base for easyJet and Neos, served by ITA Airways, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar Airways and low-cost carriers across Europe. The name misleads first-time visitors: Malpensa is not in Milan. The Duomo is 53 km away, around 50 minutes in clear traffic, and the Malpensa Express takes about 40 minutes to Cadorna and just under an hour to Centrale station. That same position makes it the airport for the lakes: Como is no further than central Milan, Stresa and Orta San Giulio are closer still, and Lugano is just over an hour away. For families and groups heading to a hotel on Lake Como or an address away from the railway, a pre-booked private transfer is the connection that leaves when you land and stops at the door.

Terminals

Malpensa has two separate terminals a few kilometres apart, and it is easy to get them wrong: always check your boarding pass. Terminal 1 is the main one and handles almost every airline, from flag carriers to long-haul. Terminal 2, the smaller of the two, is dedicated to easyJet. The terminals are linked by a free shuttle bus and by the Malpensa Express, which calls at both. When you book, tell us your arrival or departure terminal and your driver will be at the right one.

Where to find your driver

After baggage reclaim follow the signs for the arrivals exit. Your Milan Airport Transfer driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal — T1 or T2 — holding a board with your surname. We track the actual landing time, so a delay changes nothing: waiting is included up to 60 minutes after touchdown, at no extra cost. If you cannot find your driver, call the number sent by email and WhatsApp with your confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Malpensa from central Milan?+

53 km from the Duomo, around 50 minutes by car in clear traffic; at rush hour on the A8 and the ring road it can take over an hour. Malpensa is in the province of Varese, not in the city of Milan.

Do I land at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?+

Terminal 2 is dedicated to easyJet; with few exceptions every other airline uses Terminal 1. Your terminal is printed on your boarding pass — add it to your booking and your driver will wait there.

Malpensa Express or a private transfer?+

The Malpensa Express reaches Cadorna in about 40 minutes and Centrale in just under an hour: travelling alone with hand luggage, it is the obvious choice. A private transfer makes sense for families and groups, with large suitcases, when your destination is away from a station or on the lakes, and when your flight lands late.

Isn't a taxi from Malpensa cheaper?+

Between Malpensa and Milan taxis charge a fixed regional fare, so compare per vehicle: for three or more people, or with plenty of luggage, a pre-booked van with driver is often easier than two taxis. On routes to the lakes and Switzerland, where taxis run on the meter, the transfer's fixed price is a clear advantage.

How long from Malpensa to Lake Como?+

Como town is 51 km, about 50 minutes; Cernobbio 56 km. Bellagio and Tremezzo take around an hour and a half, because the last stretch follows the narrow road along the lake shore.

Do you run transfers between Malpensa and Linate or Bergamo?+

Yes: Linate is 59 km, about an hour; Orio al Serio 97 km, about an hour and 20 minutes. These are the classic transfers for connecting flights from different airports.

Will the driver wait if my flight is late?+

Yes. We monitor the flight in real time and the driver adjusts the pick-up automatically, waiting up to 60 minutes after actual landing at no extra charge.

Can I go straight to Switzerland from Malpensa?+

Yes: Lugano is 67 km, just over an hour, and St. Moritz about three hours. Bring a valid passport or identity card for the border crossing.

Can I pay the driver in cash?+

No: the transfer is paid online by card when you book (Visa, Mastercard, American Express via Stripe), with instant confirmation. Nothing is paid on board.

Are child seats available?+

Yes, on request. Give us the children's ages and weights when you book and the right seat is fitted before you are met.
