Many cruise passengers fly into Milan and embark in Genoa, a home port of MSC Cruises. Doing it by public transport means a train into Milan, a second train to Genova Piazza Principe and a walk or taxi to the terminal, with every suitcase. The private car does it in one go: about 140 minutes across the Po plain and the Ligurian Apennines, ending at the Stazione Marittima, where the cruise terminals of Ponte dei Mille and Ponte Andrea Doria handle embarkation. Your driver meets you at arrivals with a name board and tracks your flight, so a delay does not put your sailing at risk. One fixed price per vehicle, motorway tolls and cruise luggage included. The same service runs in reverse on disembarkation day.

  • One car from Malpensa to the cruise terminal — no train change in Milan
  • Drop-off at the Stazione Marittima: Ponte dei Mille or Ponte Andrea Doria
  • Flight tracked in real time, driver waits up to 60 minutes after landing
  • Vans with room for full cruise luggage for up to 7 passengers
  • Motorway tolls and luggage included in the fixed price
  • Return on disembarkation day: from the ship straight to your flight

Porto di Genova (terminal crociere) — destinazione transfer privato da Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP)

Porto di Genova (terminal crociere)

About the destination

Genoa is one of the great ports of the Mediterranean, and its cruise terminals sit right on the edge of the old city. The Stazione Marittima, opened in 1930 on Ponte dei Mille, and the neighbouring Ponte Andrea Doria are a few steps from Piazza Principe station and the Palazzo del Principe. If you arrive a day early, Genoa rewards it: the caruggi of the medieval centre, among the largest in Europe, the Renaissance and baroque palaces of Via Garibaldi listed by UNESCO as the Palazzi dei Rolli, the Porto Antico redesigned by Renzo Piano with the Aquarium, and the Lanterna, the lighthouse that has guided ships into the harbour for centuries. Genoa also gave the world pesto and focaccia, both best tasted here.

About the route

Road, traffic and timing

From Malpensa the transfer heads south on the A26 motorway across the Po plain and through the Ligurian Apennines, a section of viaducts and tunnels, before descending to the coast and the port of Genoa: 201 km, about 140 minutes. The car stops at the Stazione Marittima, where porters take cruise luggage. Motorway tolls, fuel and airport parking are included in the fixed price.

Travel tips

Know before you go

  • Fly in the day before your cruise: a night in Genoa costs less than a missed sailing
  • Attach the cruise line's luggage tags before you leave the airport — the drop at the terminal is quicker
  • Keep passports, boarding documents and medicines in your hand luggage, not in the suitcase that goes to the ship

What to visit

Nearby attractions

  • Aquarium of Genoa at the Porto Antico
  • Palazzi dei Rolli and Via Garibaldi — UNESCO-listed palaces and museums
  • The caruggi — the narrow lanes of the medieval centre
  • La Lanterna — the historic lighthouse of the port
  • Palazzo del Principe — the residence of Andrea Doria, next to the terminals

When to visit

Seasonal notes & events

The main cruise season runs from spring to autumn, with ships sailing from Genoa all year. Summer Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest embarkation days, and traffic towards the Ligurian coast builds on summer weekends: for those days we set an earlier pick-up. Autumn storms can occasionally close sections of road in the Apennines; we check conditions before departure.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private transfer from Malpensa to the port of Genoa cost?+

The price is fixed and per vehicle, not per passenger: from €365 with a Standard Sedan (up to 3 passengers), €430 with a Mercedes E-Class, €490 with a Mercedes V-Class (up to 7). Round trip from €695, with 10% off the return leg. Luggage, tolls, flight monitoring and airport meet & greet are included; any night or holiday surcharge is shown in the quote before you book.

How long is the drive from Malpensa to the Genoa cruise terminal?+

About 140 minutes for 201 km in normal traffic. On embarkation days we recommend planning to reach the port well within your check-in window: summer weekends and roadworks on the Ligurian motorways can add time.

Which terminal will we go to?+

Cruise ships in Genoa berth at the Stazione Marittima, on Ponte dei Mille or Ponte Andrea Doria. The exact terminal is shown on your boarding documents: send it to us when you book and the driver will go straight there.

Which cruise lines sail from Genoa?+

Genoa is a home port of MSC Cruises and also serves other lines on seasonal itineraries. Costa Cruises embarks mainly from its own terminal in Savona, about 50 km west: if your ticket says Savona, book that transfer instead.

What if my flight is late on embarkation day?+

We monitor your flight and adjust the pick-up. Even so, we strongly advise flying in the day before your cruise: a two-hour drive leaves little margin for a serious flight delay.

Can you collect us from the ship at the end of the cruise?+

Yes. Disembarkation is usually in the morning; give us your ship and the time of your flight from Malpensa and we will set a pick-up time that leaves a safe margin.
