Bellagio sits on the point where Lake Como divides into its Como and Lecco branches, and getting there is the part most travellers underestimate. From Malpensa it is 82 km and about 87 minutes: motorway to Como, then either the Lariana road along the eastern shore — narrow, winding and slow, with stretches where two large vehicles pass with care — or the inland route through the Vallassina and over the Ghisallo pass. Your driver knows both and chooses on the day. The car reaches the lakefront and the hotels served by road, but the heart of the village is a network of stepped lanes, the salite, that only feet can climb: tell us your hotel and we will tell you exactly where the car stops. Fixed price per vehicle, luggage included.
- About 87 minutes from Malpensa, by the fastest of the two routes on the day
- Driver used to the narrow Lariana lake road and the Ghisallo route
- We tell you in advance where the car can stop for your hotel
- Meet & greet in arrivals at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2

Bellagio
About the destination
Bellagio has been called the pearl of Lake Como for its position: on the tip of the peninsula, looking at once down both southern branches and up the lake towards the Alps. The village climbs from the lakefront in narrow stepped lanes lined with shops and cafés, and the Romanesque basilica of San Giacomo stands at the top. The gardens of Villa Melzi, neoclassical and set right on the water, open from spring to autumn; the park of Villa Serbelloni, on the hill above the village, can be visited on guided tours. At Punta Spartivento, the very tip, the lake divides in front of you. From the piers, car ferries and passenger boats cross to Varenna, Menaggio and Cadenabbia.
About the route
Road, traffic and timing
From Malpensa the transfer takes the SS336 and the A8, then the A36 Pedemontana or the Lainate junction to the A9 towards Como. From Como there are two ways to Bellagio: the SP583 Lariana along the eastern shore of the western branch, through Blevio, Torno and Nesso, or inland via Erba and the Vallassina, passing the cyclists' sanctuary of Madonna del Ghisallo. Total 82 km, about 87 minutes. Tolls included.
Travel tips
Know before you go
- Travel light if you can: the stepped lanes of Bellagio are hard work with large suitcases
- The car ferries to Varenna and Menaggio leave from Bellagio: ideal for exploring the central lake
- Visit Villa Melzi's gardens in the morning, before the day boats arrive
What to visit
Nearby attractions

- Villa Serbelloni park — guided tours on the hill above the village

- Madonna del Ghisallo — the cyclists' sanctuary above Bellagio
When to visit
Seasonal notes & events
Bellagio's season runs from spring to October, when the gardens are open and boats are frequent. July and August bring heavy traffic on the lake roads and crowds in the lanes; May, June and September are the best balance. Many of the large hotels close in winter, roughly from November to March: the village is quiet and beautiful then, but check that your accommodation is open.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a private transfer from Malpensa to Bellagio cost?+
The price is fixed and per vehicle, not per passenger: from €175 with a Standard Sedan (up to 3 passengers), €205 with a Mercedes E-Class, €235 with a Mercedes V-Class (up to 7). Round trip from €335, with 10% off the return leg. Luggage, tolls, flight monitoring and airport meet & greet are included; any night or holiday surcharge is shown in the quote before you book.
How long does it take from Malpensa to Bellagio?+
About 87 minutes for 82 km in normal conditions. The motorway section to Como is quick; the last part, on lake or valley roads, is what sets the time. On summer weekends allow more.
Can the car drive right up to my hotel in Bellagio?+
Bellagio's lakefront and many hotels are reached by road, but the centre of the village is made of stepped pedestrian lanes. Tell us your hotel when booking and we will confirm whether the car stops at the door or at the nearest point, a short walk away.
Is it better to take a boat from Como?+
Boats and hydrofoils from Como to Bellagio are a beautiful trip, but with luggage you first need to get from Malpensa to Como's pier, then on board with your cases. A direct transfer from arrivals to Bellagio is one move; the boat is better saved for a day trip once you are settled.
Which road does the driver take?+
From Como either the Lariana road along the eastern shore of the Como branch, or the route inland through the Vallassina and over the Ghisallo pass. Both are narrow in places; the driver chooses according to traffic and time of day.
Will the driver wait if my flight is late?+
Yes. The flight is monitored and the driver waits up to 60 minutes after the actual landing at no extra charge.
