Cernobbio
About the destination
Cernobbio has been a place of lakeside villas since the Renaissance. Villa d'Este, built in the 16th century for Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio and a luxury hotel since the 19th, gives its name to the Concorso d'Eleganza for classic cars held each spring, and every September it hosts the economic forum known simply as 'Cernobbio'. Next door, Villa Erba — where the film director Luchino Visconti spent the summers of his childhood — is today an exhibition and conference centre. In the village, Villa Bernasconi is an Art Nouveau house turned museum, and the lakefront piazza looks across the water towards Torno and Blevio. Above it all rises Monte Bisbino, on the Swiss border.
About the route
Road, traffic and timing
From Malpensa the transfer joins the SS336 and the A8, then reaches the A9 towards Como via the A36 Pedemontana or the Lainate junction. After the Como exit it follows the SS340 'Regina', the historic road along the western shore, for the last few kilometres to Cernobbio. Total 56 km, about 54 minutes. Tolls are included in the fixed price.

July and August are the busiest months on the Via Regina, especially on weekends.
