Cervinia sits at over 2,000 metres at the head of the Valtournenche, beneath the Italian face of the Matterhorn, and there is no train to it: the railway stops in the valley, at Châtillon, and the last 27 km are a mountain road. The private car covers the whole journey from Malpensa in about 141 minutes, with ski bags and boot bags travelling with you. Your driver meets you at arrivals with a name board, follows your flight and drives to your hotel or chalet. In winter the vehicle is fitted for snow, as Aosta Valley rules require, and the driver adapts timings to road conditions. For families and groups of skiers, a van carries everyone and all the equipment in one trip. One fixed price per vehicle, luggage and tolls included.

Breuil-Cervinia
About the destination
Breuil-Cervinia lies at the top of the Valtournenche, in the Aosta Valley, at the foot of the Matterhorn — Monte Cervino to Italians. Its ski area is linked with Zermatt across the Swiss border, creating one of the highest ski domains in the Alps, with runs reaching the Plateau Rosa glacier, where skiing is often possible beyond the usual winter season. Since 2023 the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing cable car has joined Testa Grigia to the Klein Matterhorn, so non-skiers too can travel by cable car between Cervinia and Zermatt. The resort's altitude gives it a long season and a reliable snow record, and the village itself, with its stone and timber chalets, is compact and walkable.
About the route
Road, traffic and timing
From Malpensa the transfer heads south-west on the A26, joins the A4 towards Turin and then the A5 into the Aosta Valley as far as Châtillon. From there the regional road climbs 27 km through the Valtournenche to Breuil-Cervinia: 180 km, about 141 minutes in good conditions. Motorway tolls, fuel and airport parking are included in the fixed price.
Travel tips
Know before you go
- Saturdays are changeover day for ski weeks: expect heavier traffic on the Valtournenche road
- Cervinia sits above 2,000 metres — drink water and take the first day gently
- Bring your passport or ID card if you plan to ski or ride the cable car to Zermatt
What to visit
Nearby attractions
- Plateau Rosa — high-altitude glacier skiing below the Matterhorn
- Matterhorn Alpine Crossing — cable car from Testa Grigia to Zermatt
- Lago Blu — a small lake reflecting the Matterhorn, just below the village
- Valtournenche — the villages and ski slopes of the lower valley
- Fort of Bard and the castles of the Aosta Valley — on the way back down
When to visit
Seasonal notes & events
The ski season in Cervinia usually runs from late autumn to spring, longer than in most Alpine resorts thanks to its altitude. In winter the journey time depends on weather: snow, chain controls and Saturday traffic can lengthen the climb, and we build that margin into the pick-up. Summer brings walkers, mountaineers and glacier skiing on the Plateau Rosa.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How much does a private transfer from Malpensa to Cervinia cost?+
The price is fixed and per vehicle, not per passenger: from €345 with a Standard Sedan (up to 3 passengers), €405 with a Mercedes E-Class, €475 with a Mercedes V-Class (up to 7). Round trip from €655, with 10% off the return leg. Luggage, tolls, flight monitoring and airport meet & greet are included; any night or holiday surcharge is shown in the quote before you book.
How long is the drive from Malpensa to Cervinia?+
About 141 minutes for 180 km in normal conditions. In winter, snowfall, Saturday changeover traffic and chain checkpoints on the mountain road can add time: we plan the pick-up accordingly.
Is the car equipped for snow?+
Yes. In the Aosta Valley winter tyres or snow chains on board are mandatory in the cold season — on the main roads from 15 October to 15 April — and the vehicles on this route comply. On heavy-snow days the driver may need to fit chains for the final climb.
Can we bring skis and snowboards?+
Yes. Tell us the number of ski bags, snowboards and boot bags when you book, so we assign a vehicle with enough space — usually a van for groups.
Is there public transport to Cervinia?+
Trains from Milan, usually with a change, reach Châtillon-Saint-Vincent in the valley; from there buses climb to Cervinia. With ski equipment and luggage, the change at Châtillon is the hard part, which is why most skiers book a car.
Can we ski over to Zermatt?+
Yes: the Cervinia and Zermatt ski areas are linked across the border, with an international ski pass. Carry your identity documents when skiing into Switzerland.
