Tremezzo lies midway up the western shore of Lake Como, facing Bellagio across the water, and the only road there is the SS340, the Via Regina. From Malpensa the transfer is 80 km and about 86 minutes: a quick motorway run to Como, then roughly 30 km along the shore through Cernobbio, Moltrasio, Argegno and Lenno. That last stretch is what makes the time — the road is narrow in several villages, buses and coaches pass with care, and in summer it slows noticeably, especially on weekends. That is exactly why a driver who knows the Regina is worth having. Your driver meets you in arrivals with a name board and takes you to the door of your hotel on the lakefront. Fixed price per vehicle, luggage and tolls included.

Tremezzo
About the destination
Tremezzo, since 2014 part of the municipality of Tremezzina, is one of the classic resorts of Lake Como, with a lakefront of grand hotels and the small Parco Teresio Olivelli on the water. Its great attraction is Villa Carlotta: a museum with sculptures by Antonio Canova and his school and paintings by Francesco Hayez, set in a botanical garden famous for its azaleas and rhododendrons in spring. A few kilometres south, in Lenno, Villa del Balbianello stands on the wooded Lavedo point and is reached on foot along a path or by boat from the Lido di Lenno. Offshore lies the Isola Comacina, the lake's only island, reached by boat from Sala Comacina. The car ferry from nearby Cadenabbia crosses to Bellagio and Varenna.
About the route
Road, traffic and timing
From Malpensa the transfer takes the SS336 and the A8, then the A36 Pedemontana or the Lainate junction to the A9, leaving it at Como. From there it follows the SS340 Regina north along the western shore through Cernobbio, Moltrasio, Brienno, Argegno, Sala Comacina and Lenno to Tremezzo. Total 80 km, about 86 minutes. Tolls are included in the fixed price.
Travel tips
Know before you go
- Arrive early in the day in summer: the Regina is at its slowest from late morning on weekends
- Villa Carlotta is best in April and May, when the azaleas and rhododendrons are in flower
- Use the car ferry from Cadenabbia to reach Bellagio and Varenna without driving round the lake

When to visit
Seasonal notes & events
Spring is Tremezzo's finest season, with Villa Carlotta's gardens in full bloom. Summer is busy and the lake road slow, especially at weekends. Many of the large lakefront hotels close in winter, roughly from November to March, and some villas and boat services reduce their opening: if you travel off-season, check your hotel and the sites you plan to visit.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a private transfer from Malpensa to Tremezzo cost?+
The price is fixed and per vehicle, not per passenger: from €170 with a Standard Sedan (up to 3 passengers), €200 with a Mercedes E-Class, €230 with a Mercedes V-Class (up to 7). Round trip from €325, with 10% off the return leg. Luggage, tolls, flight monitoring and airport meet & greet are included; any night or holiday surcharge is shown in the quote before you book.
How long does it take to get from Malpensa to Tremezzo?+
About 86 minutes for 80 km in normal conditions. The motorway to Como is quick; the 30 km of Via Regina along the lake set the pace, and on summer weekends they can add a good deal of time.
Why is the lake road so slow?+
The SS340 runs through the villages of the western shore and is narrow in several places, where buses and larger vehicles must slow down to pass one another. In July and August, traffic builds up along it, particularly at weekends.
Does the car stop at my hotel in Tremezzo?+
Yes. Tremezzo's hotels sit along the lakeside road, so the transfer ends at the entrance. If you are staying in a villa on the hillside above, tell us the address and we will check access in advance.
How do I visit Villa del Balbianello from Tremezzo?+
It is in Lenno, a few kilometres south. You reach it on foot along a path from Lenno or by boat taxi from the Lido di Lenno. It belongs to the FAI (the Italian National Trust): check opening days and book before you go.
Will my driver wait if the flight is delayed?+
Yes. The flight is monitored in real time and the driver waits up to 60 minutes after the actual landing at no extra charge.
