Overview

Milan Bergamo Airport (IATA: BGY, ICAO: LIME), named after Caravaggio, stands at Orio al Serio, under 4 km south-east of Bergamo and some 45 km from Milan as the crow flies. It is Italy's third airport by passengers: in 2025 it handled 16.9 million, just below its 2024 record, with Ryanair the dominant airline — it runs one of its largest bases here — followed by Wizz Air. It is called "Milan Bergamo" because most people landing here are going to Milan, and the arithmetic is simple: 57 km and about 55 minutes to the Duomo in clear traffic, along the A4 motorway. Buses to Centrale station leave the forecourt throughout the day, and a rail link to Bergamo is under construction. For the lakes, though, the picture changes: the Lecco arm of Lake Como is close, and Bellagio and Varenna are under an hour and a half away. If you land here on an evening low-cost flight, with family or suitcases, you want to know two things — how long and how much: a private transfer has one fixed price per vehicle, set when you book, and leaves when you land.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Bergamo airport from Milan?+

57 km from the Duomo, about 55 minutes by car in clear traffic along the A4. At rush hour, between Agrate and the eastern ring road, it can take up to half an hour longer — allow a margin for departures.

How far is the airport from Bergamo itself?+

Under 4 km from the lower town; the Città Alta, which cars can reach as far as the limited-traffic zone gates, is about twenty minutes away.

Is there a train from Bergamo airport?+

Not yet: a rail link between the airport and Bergamo station is under construction. For now buses leave the forecourt for Milano Centrale and for Bergamo.

Bus or private transfer to Milan?+

The bus to Centrale suits solo travellers with light luggage. A private transfer makes sense for two or more people with suitcases, for addresses far from Centrale and for evening flights, when the last bus has gone or the queue is long: it leaves when you land and drops you at the door.

Can I reach Lake Como from Orio?+

Yes, more easily than people expect: Bellagio and Varenna are 63 km, about an hour and 25 minutes along the Lecco arm. Como town is 82 km, an hour and a quarter.

Do you run transfers between Bergamo and Malpensa or Linate?+

Yes: Linate is 57 km, just under an hour; Malpensa 97 km, about an hour and 20 minutes. These are the routes for connecting a low-cost flight with a scheduled one.

Will the driver wait if my flight is late?+

Yes, up to 60 minutes after actual landing, at no extra charge. We track the flight for you.

How do I pay?+

Online by card when you book (Visa, Mastercard, American Express via Stripe), with instant confirmation. Cash on board is not accepted.
