St. Moritz
The heart of the Engadine
Twice an Olympic host, in 1928 and 1948, above a high mountain lake.
St. Moritz lies in the Upper Engadine, in the canton of Graubünden, at 1,800 metres on its own lake: it hosted the Winter Olympics of 1928 and 1948, holds the White Turf horse races on the frozen lake and the Cresta Run in winter, and for over a century has been a byword for luxury alpine travel. From Milan there are two ways in: via Chiavenna and the Maloja Pass, or through the Valtellina, Tirano and the Bernina, where the Rhaetian Railway's Bernina Express also runs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Malpensa it is about three hours.

Practical tips
- You are entering Switzerland: valid ID for every passenger, and mind the customs allowances on goods you buy.
- The Maloja is open in winter but slow: for return flights we build in a generous margin.
