Monza
Royal Villa and racetrack
One of Europe's largest walled parks and the home of the Italian Grand Prix.
Monza lies north-east of Milan, in Brianza, and for many travellers it means a single weekend a year: the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix, held at the Autodromo Nazionale, opened in 1922 inside Monza Park. Yet the park — one of the largest walled historic parks in Europe — began as the garden of the Villa Reale, built by Giuseppe Piermarini in the late eighteenth century, and the cathedral keeps the Iron Crown in the chapel of Theodelinda.
