Menaggio
The gateway to Lugano
A west-shore promenade, with the road climbing from here towards Switzerland.
Menaggio sits on the western shore, facing Bellagio and Varenna, and is the hub of the central lake: from here the triangle ferries depart, along with the road that climbs the valley towards Porlezza and Lake Lugano. The village has a broad lakefront and a compact centre around Piazza Garibaldi, and above it the trails of the Como Prealps begin. It is the practical base for anyone who wants to move around the lake without depending on a single boat.
