Cernobbio

Lakeside villas on Como's doorstep

Villa d'Este and Villa Erba on the western shore.

Cernobbio is the first village on the western shore after Como, and its name is tied to a villa: Villa d'Este, built in the sixteenth century for Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio and a hotel since the nineteenth, where The European House – Ambrosetti Forum meets every September. A little further on, Villa Erba, a nineteenth-century residence, is now a conference and exhibition centre. Life here revolves around the lakefront, the grand hotels and weddings: it is under an hour from Malpensa.
