Port of Savona – Cruise Transfers to and from Milan

Costa's Palacrociere: your cruise starts here, two and a half hours from Malpensa.

Overview

Savona is the home port of Costa Cruises: the Palacrociere, opened in 2003 on the Calata delle Vele in the Darsena, is the line's own terminal and was doubled in 2014 so that it can handle two ships at once, including LNG-powered flagships such as Costa Smeralda and Costa Toscana. In the 2025 season the port handled around 792,000 cruise passengers, and unlike Genoa most of them start or finish their voyage here: it is an embarkation port rather than a port of call. For those travelling from afar the point is always the same: Savona has no airport of its own, and flights land in Milan or Genoa. From Linate to the Palacrociere is 180 km, just over two hours; from Malpensa 214 km, about two and a half hours. A private transfer spares you the train changes with cruise luggage and stops outside the terminal.

Where to find your driver

On embarkation day we work the pick-up backwards from the check-in slot assigned by Costa, with a margin for traffic on the Ligurian motorways, which is heavy in summer and at weekends. Your driver drops you at the Palacrociere entrance, where luggage is handed over. On disembarkation we agree a time based on your assigned slot and the driver waits at the terminal exit with a board showing your surname.

Frequently asked questions

How long from Milan to the port of Savona?+

From central Milan about two hours for 170 km in clear traffic; from Linate just over two hours, from Malpensa about two and a half. On the Ligurian motorways, in summer and at weekends, allow a margin.

Do only Costa ships sail from Savona?+

The Palacrociere is Costa Cruises' terminal and is used above all by its home line. If you are sailing with another company, check the port on your documents: many sail from Genoa.

My flight lands on the morning of embarkation — will I make it?+

It depends on the flight time and your check-in slot. From Malpensa allow about two and a half hours on the road plus getting out of the airport: send us your flight and ship and we will tell you honestly whether the margin is there.

Can you take us to Turin after disembarking?+

Yes, 142 km, about an hour and three-quarters. It is an on-request journey: send destination and date and we confirm before you book.

Is there room for cruise luggage?+

Tell us the number of people and suitcases when you book: with cruise luggage, a van is the sensible choice from three or four passengers.
